- When you receive the call
do not do or say anything that would make the employer sense that
coming into an interview would be an inconvenience to you. Sometimes
we all tend to think aloud when presented with a date for an
interview, and say things like what am I going to do for child-care,
or how am I going to get there. Thinking aloud like this on the
phone, and asking yourself these types of questions typically
worries the employer that you may not be able to plan things
accordingly, or may have these issues down the road if hired, and
could limit you opportunity very quickly.
- Do your homework on the
organization, find out and learn all information about them so that
you can show the employer that you cared enough about the position
to research it a little. Doing your homework will impress employers,
and help them to worry less about training and transition time if
you already know some finer points about the organization. To top it
off of course, if the employer asks you to tell them a little about
the position, or organization for which you are applying you don’t
want to be caught not in the know.
- The third thing is all
about appearance, meaning lose the gum, and wear a professional
looking outfit. The old motto dress for success is a good one, no
matter what the job may be. For the guys a shirt and tie never is a
bad thing, because looking professional will if nothing else, show
that you take things seriously, and seriously want to be employed
with the organization. Dress is crucial to creating that
professional image that employers want, it will again show that you
took the time and energy, and cared enough to prepare for the
interview.
