Emergency Childcare at the GMFRC
Did you know that if you qualify for Emergency Childcare, it is FREE for up to 72 hours, depending on the type of “emergency” you are experiencing.  Emergency Childcare is available 24 hours per day with our screened, qualified childcare providers.  Please don’t let the word “emergency” scare you—it is simply support for your family when circumstances occur that are beyond your control.

The goal of the service is to support the ability of CF members to be available for duty by maximizing parents’ accessibility to childcare during times of emergency.   Please call 765-5611 or call Kim directly at 765-1494 (local 1812) for an assessment.

For upcoming Respite Childcare check out our quarterly newsletter and monthly calendars
Respite Childcare

Did you know that Respite Childcare is FREE?  As part of Emergency Childcare Services, the purpose of Respite Childcare is to provide a break for the parent left behind while the military member is away, on course, etc.  If you find that you are in need of some time to yourself, phone Kim for an assessment.  We can no longer promise a certain number of hours per week for everyone, but if you need a break, please call.  We can arrange childcare at a time that fits your life.

If you do not wish to call for an assessment but still need Respite Childcare services, the following four offerings are open to any family of deployed 14 Wing Personnel and/or families whose member is away from home on TD/course for any period of time.  Simply call 765-5611 to register.

Note: If you are calling outside of GMFRC hours with an Emergency Childcare Situation, please call Wing Ops at 765-1494, local 5457and your call will be referred to Kim.

GMFRC Welcome Program for Newcomers
The GMFRC Welcome Program is administered by the Coordinator of Community Information Services.  The success of this program greatly depends on GMFRC Volunteers who are involved in all aspects of this program such as putting packages together, placing Welcome Calls as well as greeting newly posted members and offering tours of the Centre. If you are interested in joining the GMFRC Welcome Program Volunteer Team, contact GMFRC Coordinator of Volunteer and Second Language Services at 765-1494, local 5938.
For enquiries about the Greenwood MFRC Welcome Program and its components, don’t hesitate to contact the Coordinator of Outreach and Community Information Services at local 5941 or home@greenwoodmfrc.ca.

Here are the different program components geared to welcome and orient 14 Wing newcomers and their families.

 Greenwood Welcome Packages
The Greenwood Welcome Package is filled with information, which provides the new member/family with
relevant information about their new community prior to their arrival to Greenwood or shortly thereafter and to ease the transition from one community to another.  For example, 14 Wing Greenwood infrastructures and services, the Greenwood GMFRC programs and services, as well as contact information needed during the family’s relocation (essential services, doctors/dentists, schools, Wing Clubs…) and regional and provincial tourism information and more…

How to obtain copies of the Greenwood Welcome Package
Wing section sponsors can pick up Welcome packages at the GMFRC front desk located at the AVM Morfee Centre on School Road.  Sponsors can also place their order through email and the package will be sent through internal base mail.  Whenever possible, you will need to provide the member’s name; squadron or section posted to; and date of arrival.  This is only for statistical purposes and to avoid duplication.  M
embers or their family members may also request one through email or telephone if they don’t have a Wing Sponsor.  If the member hasn’t received a package prior to his or her arrival, they will get one when clearing in at the GMFRC Front desk.

Virtual Welcome Package @ “www.greenwoodmfrc.ca”
In addition to the paper format, the Greenwood Military Family Resource Centre is maintaining a Virtual Welcome Package.  This is an excellent way for members and their family living outside the province to access various local, regional and provincial related resources available online.

New Arrival Registration
Each CF Member newly posted to 14 Wing Greenwood is required to clear in at the GMFRC Front desk.  The member has to complete a New Arrival Registration Form to provide us with necessary information so we can offer appropriate Welcome Services to them and their family and give them opportunities to connect with members of their new community.  The information collected is only used for purpose for which it was collected and is protected under the Military Family Services Privacy Code.

On the form, they are asked to indicate if they want a representative from the GMFRC to give their family a Welcome Call.  They leave with a Welcome Gift Card which invites them to come back with their family for a visit.

Welcome Gift and Tour

To help them feel welcome in their new community, all members clearing-in receive a “Welcome Gift Card” inviting the newcomers (preferably with the spouse/partner and dependants) to come in for a tour and to receive a Welcome Gift.  On the day of the tour, visitors are greeted by GMFRC staff or who will conduct a tour of the facilities and briefly explain the GMFRC programs/services and answer questions.

All tours or visits of the GMFRC for newly posted members and families will be conducted on a daily basis.  Just drop in  the Centre with the whole family and it will be our pleasure to give you a tour of our facility and an overview of our programs and services. Evening tours are also available on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings between 6:00 and 8:00 pm from September to June (subject to change).  CF Members and/or their spouse and family can come in during that period to redeem their coupon and get their Welcome Gift.

Welcome Calls
To inform and connect family members with our programs and services, Welcome Calls and follow-up contacts are available for those interested.  CF Members may request that a phone call be placed to their family to welcome them to the area. This question is asked on the GMFRC New Arrivals Registration Form.  Only those who have responded positively will receive a Welcome Call from a GMFRC Representative.
